What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.17
──> Minor Problem Fix!
A minor problem was fixed where the CRC values in the
BOOTR.INI file were not being updated if the user simply ran
the BOOT'R button menu without rebooting or writing any
configuration changes. This could have been a problem if the
user changed the file on disk called AUTOEXEC.BAT, for
example. When BOOT'R prompted the user whether or not to
update these changes into the master configuration file, the
new CRC values would not be written until the configuration
files were written and the system had been rebooted.
So by entering and exiting the BOOT'R button menu several
times, the user could have been prompted multiple times that
the configuration file AUTOEXEC.BAT had been changed, even
though it had already been updated into the master
configuration file.
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.16
──> Automatic Detection of File Changes!
BOOT'R will now automatically detect when configuration files
such as C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT, C:\CONFIG.SYS have been changed
between rebooting sessions. BOOT'R warns users that changes
have been made to a configuration file, and prompts the user
whether or not to place these changes in the current BOOT'R
configuration file. For example, if a user installs a program
within Microsoft Windows, and the installed program modifies
the file C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT, BOOT'R will now detect that this
change has been made, and will warn the user before rebooting.
The user can tell BOOT'R to add these new modifications into
the current configuration file, ensuring that they will be in
the file C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT the next time Windows is loaded using
BOOT'R. File modifications are detected using CRC values
written to the BOOTR.INI file. For a complete list of
changes, please read the files BOOTR.REV and BOOTRED.REV.
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.15
──> Alternate Reboot Methods!
Users can now specify how their computer is rebooted when
BOOT'R issues the command to reboot the computer system.
Users can specify a "Warm Boot" (the default), which is
similar to pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL, a "Safe Boot", which flushes
all DOS buffers before rebooting the computer, or a "Cold
Boot" which is similar to pushing the reset or on/off switch
on the computer.
──> "Load All" Option in BOOT'R Editor's External Text Editor
This new option (available when editing the text files) allows
users to automatically load the actual files from the hard
drive into the existing configuration files. For example, if
a user creates a new configuration with C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT and
C:\CONFIG.SYS, he can select Load All to load the text from
the existing hard drive files into his configuration files.
──> More Enhancements For New Users
This version of BOOT'R also adds additional precautionary
measures for new users. When the BOOT'R Editor is launched
Page 1
for the first time, it will make backup copies of the
C:\WINDOWS\WIN.INI and C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI files, placing
them in the BOOT'R directory. If new users choose to create
a default configuration (named ORIGINAL.BTR), the BOOT'R
Editor will give users the option of automatically including
the WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI files in the configuration.
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.14
──> Expanded Documentation
The documentation in BOOT'R Version 2.14 has been
significantly expanded to include several new sections. A
section has been added to describe "the basic concepts" behind
BOOT'R and how it works. Examples are given on how to create
a (NORMAL) default configuration. A section has been added
that details one of STSI's setups, and shows our NORMAL and
WINDOWS configurations.
──> Enhancements For New Users
This version of BOOT'R also adds some precautionary measures
for new users. When the BOOT'R Editor is launched for the
first time, it will make a backup copy of the AUTOEXEC.BAT and
CONFIG.SYS files, placing them in the default BOOT'R
directory. (The names are changed to AUTOEXEC.OLD and
CONFIG.OLD.) Also, if no .BTR files have been created yet,
the BOOT'R Editor will prompt the user and optionally create a
default configuration (named ORIGINAL.BTR) using the system's
current AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files. This helps to make
sure that the user does not accidentally overwrite his current
configuration files when testing BOOT'R.
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.13
──> Maintenance Release
BOOT'R Version 2.13 contains a few minor problem fixes in the
text editor. A Runtime Error #2 has been fixed when
attempting to load or insert a non-existent file. The file
size limitations have changed. Previously, each individual
file could be up to 16K in size, with a combined total of
under 32K. Now, each individual file can be up to 32K in
size, with a combined total of 64K allowed.
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.12
──> Enhancements!
BOOT'R Version 2.12 contains several new enhancements, with
most of the changes being made to BOOT'R's button menu.
(Users who are unfamiliar with the BOOT'R button menu should
just type "BOOTR" from a DOS prompt.) A screen blanker has
been added to the button menu to automatically prevent the
screen from "burning in". The default screen blanker interval
is 3 minutes. The screen blanker settings can be changed from
the BOOT'R Editor's "Defaults" screen. Other enhancements
include hot-key assignments on the button menu, and a new "F3"
to edit the file named on the currently selected button.
Minor changes have been made in the BOOT'R Editor, as well.
For a complete list of changes, please read the files
BOOTR.REV and BOOTRED.REV.

What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.11
──> Maintenance Update
Version 2.11 of BOOT'R is a maintenance update. A few minor
cosmetic issues have been fixed. For a complete list of
revisions, see the files BOOTR.REV and BOOTRED.REV.
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.10
──> New Editor!
Version 2.10 of BOOT'R contains a new, mouseable editor.
Features include easy cut, copy, and paste, with complete
mouse support! An online reference for the AUTOEXEC.BAT,
CONFIG.SYS, and NET.CFG files is also included! The editor
uses an MDI (multiple document interface) allowing you to edit
all of the files at the same time. The new editor still
provides support for easy importing and loading of existing
files. Monochrome support is built-in.
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.05
──> ASP Compliance!
Version 2.05 of BOOT'R is now ASP compliant! STSI is a new
author member of the Association of Shareware Professionals!
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.04
──> Maintenance Release
Version 2.04 of BOOT'R is a maintenance release. A problem
has been fixed where literal tab characters (#9) were not
being converted to spaces when a file was loaded or imported
into the editor. A new Tab-To-Space Conversion setting has
been added to instruct BOOT'R how many spaces should be used
to replace a tab character when a tab character is
encountered.
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.03
──> Maintenance Release
Version 2.03 of BOOT'R is a maintenance release that contains
a major fix to the INSTALL.EXE program distributed with BOOT'R
in version 2.02. A runtime error would occur when Ok was
selected, making the Install program virtually unusable. This
problem has been fixed.
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.02
──> Maintenance Release
Version 2.02 of BOOT'R is a maintenance release. Several
issues were addressed, including the BOOTRED.EXE stripping out
leading spaces from a .BTR file when reading it, and BOOTR.EXE
stripping out leading spaces when writing a configuration
Page 3
file. A complete list of changes and fixes can be found in
the files BOOTR.REV and BOOTRED.REV.
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.01
──> Maintenance Release
BOOTRED.EXE had a minor bug in the help system that did not
always allow a user to switch to a topic when viewing the
topic index. This problem has been fixed.
What's New in BOOT'R Version 2.00
──> Major Release!
BOOTR.EXE has been completely rewritten in a new programming
language to address problems that were inherent in the
previous programming language used to write BOOT'R. Among
problems addressed were the truncation of lines longer than
121 characters when writing a configuration file and incorrect
writing of DOS environment variables such as %PATH% or %USER%.
BOOTRED.EXE has also been completely rewritten in a new
programming language. Both BOOTR.EXE and BOOTRED.EXE are now
much faster and easier to use than before! (A complete list
of revisions can be found in the two files BOOTR.REV and
BOOTRED.REV.)
What's New in BOOT'R Version 1.11
──> BOOT'R Editor Fixes.
Several problem areas from version 1.10 have been fixed in
this release. (A complete list of fixes and enhancements can
be found in the two files BOOTR.REV and BOOTRED.REV.)
What's New in BOOT'R Version 1.10
